A lone tree, a rainbow crossing a sky still heavy with clouds — the cover of « Itêká ryīsūnga Kirazira » carries something of a promise kept after hardship. The book itself explains, in Kirundi: « Kwīsūnga Kirazira » means respecting the established order — the law, the taboo, the oath, everything that structures life. Breaking it causes harm; respecting it calls for restraint.
A hundred new proverbs, eight hundred inherited
This book invites readers to weigh the order that governs households, families and the country. It gathers a hundred new proverbs, completed by eight hundred more drawn from the author's two earlier volumes: « Ijāmbo Ryūbáka » (2019) and « Amahóro mu Bāntu » (2020) — the three together forming the largest body of contemporary Kirundi proverbs available on Akaguriro.
Mânirakíza Zénon, born in Kiganda in 1965, closes here a trilogy built over several years, carried by one conviction: ancestral wisdom still has something to say to the present.
