RwaNda — Essay (Dieudonné Bacinoni)
A 10,000 BIF note, some haggling at Jabe market, and a discovery that gives the book its title. An essay on two national heroes assassinated in the prime of life.
The title of this book will seem strange at first. Dieudonné Bacinoni drew on a real anecdote: a man went to Jabe market to haggle with a vendor. She eventually offered to give him a note called *« RwaNda »*. Not quite grasping her meaning, the man thought hard about it. From his pocket, he pulled out a brand-new 10,000 BIF note. He saw the photos of Rwagasore and Ndadaye. Eureka! These were the first syllables of their names.
Two fates, one ending
These celebrated men share a common destiny as national heroes: one fought for Independence, the other for Democracy — both assassinated young.
