Here I Am, Send Me — My Experience (Gratien Bitegamaso)
Half a century of Burundian catechesis, told from the inside. Born in 1946 on Kirembera hill, Gratien Bitegamaso traces a life devoted to passing on the Word — from his formation in Bujumbura all the way to retirement in Canada.
A vocation, not a career
The title comes from a line heard as a call to mission: « Announcing the Word of God is a mission that must be answered with: Yes, Lord, I come to do your will. » For Gratien Bitegamaso this isn't an empty phrase — it's the summary of sixty years of life.
From Kirembera to Canada, via Uganda
Diocesan permanent secretary from 1968, director of the Saint Kizito Institute for children with disabilities, financial officer of the Burundi Cooperatives Federation and then of SOS Children's Village Bujumbura — the path runs through parishes, institutions, countries. He carried on catechism work in Uganda, then in Canada, where he now lives, retired but still active.
